More than Robots

Who are we?

The Gearheads work in six specialized groups. The Design team is the planner, making sure each and every dimension of the robot is correct. Without their constant designing (CAD), we would not be able to machine the parts necessary to build the robot. The Fabrication shop is where the parts of our robot are become real. Our “shop-rats” use machining equipment like the lathe, belt sander, drill press, and mills in order to create the parts that make our 'bot. The Build team then puts the robot together, along with any game pieces we need to practice with. Without their hard work, we would have a jumble of parts on a table. The Controls team does all of the wiring and programming the 'brain' of the robot. This allows the robot to run and compete each year. The Safety team is our protector who makes sure we know what to do in an emergency and how to prevent them. They are always watching the team and ensuring everyone has the same amount of limbs as they started out with. The Media team is the only reason we have proof of this, since they document everything that happens on our website, social media outlets, and newsletters. During competition you can find our Design subteam in the stands and pits watching matches and talking to other teams to document the abilities and strengths of other teams. Last but certainly not least, our Business subteam helps us manage the funds that run our team. Our team captains this season are Chloe Skiles and Trinity Diehlee.

Design

This group is where we put our ideas into digital existence with CAD (Computer Aided Design). The designs and prototypes they draw are then sent to fabrication so dimensions and measurements can be exact. The captain of this subteam is Audry Rakozy.

Fabrication

This group uses the drawings from Design and various machines in our shop to fabricate the parts of our robot using various materials. The captain of this subteam is Michael Puppos.

Build

Controls

This group uses the fabricated parts to prototype, troubleshoot and build our robot for any given season and during competition are relied upon for smalle fixes to anything that may have broken. The captain of this subteam is Logan Crook.
This group codes the brain of our robot using C++ and wires it so it actually moves. The captain of this subteam is Govind Suresh.

Safety

Media

This group is in charge of making sure the entire team stays safe and alive. They stress the importance of safety both in our shop and at compeition and keep tools such as battery spill kits, fire extinguishers and safety kits up to date and easily available. The captain of this subteam is Maverick McArthur
This group produces a newsletter called The Gearheads Gazette, creates animations, videos and comics and updates all of our social media websites. Media spreads our name memorably and artistically into our community. The captain of this subteam is Naomi Ozormoor.

Game strategy + sCOUTING                     Business

This group scouts other teams during competition and analyzes the numerous strategies and abilities of other robots.  With their help, our team is able to create efficient strategies for competing and skillfully build powerful alliances during playoffs.   The captain of this subteam is Amelia Abraham
This group is in charge of the team budget. They write grants, hold fundraiser and keep our team afloat financially. Also in charge of sponsor communication, this subteam sends out letters and holds events to thank all who have supported our team financially. The captain of this subteam is Ritika Pansare.
