Welcome to the official website for FRC Team 1189, the Gearheads!
The Gearheads is the official FIRST Robotics team representing Grosse Pointe North & Grosse Pointe South High schools with an average of 20 students per year.  Since our humble beginnings with First Robotics 22 years ago, Team 1189 has competed at numerous competitions, received many awards and introduced hundreds of students to STEAM.  We are one team, working together in seven sections: Design, Build, Fabrication, Controls, Media, Business sand Safety.

  • Rank 9 with a record of 9-7-0
  • 1st Pick Alliance 2 and eliminated in Round 4
  • Industrial Design Award sponsored by General Motors

March 27th-29th, 2025 - Macomb District Event​
  • Rank 3 with a record of 12-4-0
  • Captain of Alliance 3 eliminated in Round 5
  • Dean's List Semi-Finalist (Gavin P)
  • Innovation in Control Award sponsored by nVent

April 3rd-5th, 2025 - Michigan State Championship @ SVSU​​​​​
  • Rank 19 with a record of 7-7-1 on Consumers Energy Foundation Field
  • 1st Pick of Alliance 8 eliminated in Round 3

Our  Mission

​The mission of the Gearheads is to build people, not just robots. We do this through creating an environment that equips students with the skills necessary to become capable and confident leaders in STEAM and actively engaging with our community to support and promote STEAM.
